dresden plates

That day I made one dresden plate.

And it is so pretty I had to make another one today.

And I may prefer the second one actually.

Both dresdens are machine-pieced, not paper-pieced. Only the centre circle is handsewn on. Natural linen back with a layer of cotton batting between.

I had been wanting to try using the machine for sewing dresdens all these while. One reason is that I'm a little tired of English paper piecing (my hexagons). And also, machine piecing gives me the thrill to get things done fast (before my kids scream and fight).

I'm very happy with the dresdens to be frank! They are not perfect but I love them! They were completed within about an hour each. Of course, it was achieved only when the essentials are done and laid out like the cutting of fabric and hot iron. Yes, again this time I used lace eyelet for the centre piece. Don't ask me why but I just couldn't find anything else more suitable.

They look pretty as wall decorations too, don't they? :)

What a crazy week we had! I'm grateful my mum popped over to help with kids for a couple of nights. She gave me time to sew and read. But then she saw these dresdens and has "ordered" me to make a mini quilt for her to put up the wall in my maiden home. Oh well.

Now guess I really have to do paper-piecing for the dresdens....

last week & yesterday

A zipper pouch for my mom.

A small yo-yo and a pearl for her because she likes both. And I used quilting thread to hand quilt the patchwork onto a soft thin batting.

The back is natural linen with lace. I also used the same lace for attachment of an O-ring so that she can hang her favourite charms.

Interior is one of my favourite floral fabric. I did not bear to use it since I only had a really small piece left. But for my mom, it's ok because I know she will definitely like it as much as I do.

Last week, I also started with my baby blanket. The quilt top is ready and I'm starting to hand quilt it.

Yesterday, I made two headbands for Chilli and me. One with MT washi tape and ther other with fabric tape (available in my store soon). I used a plain black headband and just twirl the tapes around. A short crafting time to calm myself in the middle of kids tantrums.

A happy mail that came yesterday! Look at all the beautiful fabrics!

Yes, I know we are having a baby boy coming but I just cannot resist floral fabrics. You can get them from here, one of my favourite online fabric stores.

I have a tutorial on the round pouch coming up soon. Thank you for all the sweet mails regarding the pouch. I am not selling patterns now. Maybe in the near future if I'm lucky?

Love... or hate

I have a love-hate relationship with quilting. While my first lesson in sewing was patchwork and quilting, I never quite finish quilting all my work. Either I was too ambitious to sew big bags and quilts, or maybe I was too lazy to sit for hours or days and use a tiny needle to quilt.

Not sure why, the quilting bug caught me the day before and I started cutting some batting and quilt the strawberry fabric on it to make a nice school case for a little girl for her new school term. With each stitch, I felt, actually, good. In fact, it was therapeutic. Perhaps I will make another quilted pouch...soon.

Below is another case for a nice lady, Linda, who waited almost two months (or more) for her bag to be done. Be it the problem with the mailing box system, I feel kinda guilty for the long delay so I did a complementary mini pouch to match her bag. I love how the fabric designs match and de-match. Romantic pink Japanese garden floral with royal blue checks. It's a non-conventional kind of combination but I love it! Usually customers would prefer pink+pink or blue+blue combination but this time, I want to do something different (again!) and Linda was very spontaneous as well to accept my "wild" idea.

Really hope she'll like it!

zy loves Sofie so I was thinking maybe I should list Sofie in Etsy to share the gift of love.

Sofie makes zy smile. And I love to see zy smiley and happy. Bears, seems that they have magical power to make us feel loved.
